So what’s it like?

For a ski holiday that’s a little different – and a lot less expensive than the Alps, then why not try Bulgaria. It’s a great place to learn skiing, with excellent English-speaking ski schools working on an abundance of tree-lined beginner and intermediate slopes.

We’re confident it will provide everything you could want for an unforgettable trip with your friends and family.

Accommodation options

Four star hotels and aprtments with good facilities are the norm in Bulgaria, taking you away from the traditional ski lodge set up (and the hosts strict rules).  It means your group can all stay together and have your own fun while being comfortable and relaxed.  Four and five star apartments are really reasonable in Bulgaria so you can live like Kings for a minimum spend.

Most of the hotels have their own bars and Rila Hotel even has it’s own nightclub so getting back to your room after a few drinks was never easier.

Local culture

Bulgarians love Christmas and Easter, so if you go at these times, prepare to enjoy plenty of decorations, folk dances and feasts. Bulgarian people are fun and hospitable and will always find an excuse to celebrate you being in their country, with all the traditional music and merriment that involves.  The beauty of the Bulgarian ski scene is that is neither stuffy or pretentious, it’s about having fun so groups of friends are welcomed.

Food and drink

The bars and clubs are modern and lively, with your spending money going a lot further here. It’s not unusual to find a pint of for as little as £1.20, or a three-course meal for just over £10.

In terms of cuisine, all tastes are catered for – pizza, pasta, burgers and chips are widely available – but it’s well worth trying some Bulgarian delicacies. There’s plenty of grilled meat on offer – from lamb kebabs to deer sausages – to be eaten alongside fresh local breads and pastries, feta cheese, hummus and yoghurt dips.

Don’t forget to sample some of the local fruit brandy, Rakia, as an aperitif or digestif in the evening.

Borovets and Bankso are small resorts offering a wealth of bars, restaurants and facilities.  Most of the accommodation is by the Gondola and everything is within walking distance – supermarkets etc…
